Rochester, New York: Doris Kearns Goodwin—Pulitzer-Prize winning historian, author, and political analyst—will deliver the keynote address at this year’s sell-out Susan B. Anthony Birthday Luncheon next Tuesday—Tuesday, February 14—from noon until 1:30 p.m., at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

All media are invited to attend. Reporters, photographers and camerapersons may stay during the luncheon; cameras will be permitted.

Doris Kearns Goodwin has been reporting on politics and baseball for over two decades. She is the author of several books and has written for leading national publications. She is a also commentator for NBC, and a frequent consultant and on-air person for PBS documentaries. An avid baseball fan, she is particularly proud of the fact that she was the first female journalist to be admitted to the Boston Red Sox locker room.

Mrs. Goodwin received her B.A. from Colby College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While at Colby, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the international honor society. She received her Ph.D. in government from Harvard University, and taught courses on government and the American presidency there for several years. Following her tenure at Harvard, Mrs. Goodwin served as an assistant to Lyndon Johnson in his last year in the White House. She later assisted Johnson in the preparation of his memoirs.

Kearns Goodwin’s most recent work is a monumental history of Abraham Lincoln, entitled Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, released late last fall and immediately rising to the top of the New York Times bestseller list. Steven Spielberg is developing a feature film about the book, set to star Liam Neeson as Lincoln, and due to be released in late 2006.

She has also authored books on Lyndon Johnson, the Fitzgerald and Kennedy families, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and a memoir called Wait Till Next Year about growing up in the 1950’s in love with the Brooklyn Dodgers.Mrs. Goodwin is married to Richard Goodwin and has three sons.

Sponsors for the event include Unity Health Systems, television station 13-WHAM-TV, the Democrat & Chronicle, and WXXI.
