Top New York Times Editor to deliver keynote at annual Susan B. Anthony birthday luncheon

Rochester, NY - Gail Collins, the first female Editorial Page Editor of The New York Times and author of the recently released book entitled America's Women: 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates, and Heroines, will deliver the keynote address during the Annual Susan B. Anthony Birthday Luncheon, which will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Collins was appointed Editorial Page Editor of the Times in September 1999, four years after she joined the editorial board. She has worked in the journalism field since the early 1970s, specifically in the New York City market for the past two decades. She was a columnist for New York Newsday from 1991-95 and The New York Daily News from 1985-91. Collins also worked as a financial reporter for United Press International in New York from 1982-85. Founder of the Connecticut State News Bureau, she provided coverage of state politics in the 1970s for newspapers across the state.

The luncheon will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 12, 2004. Collins will sign copies of her book before and after the luncheon. Tickets are $50 per person, $75 for patrons (includes listing in program), and $500 for tables for 10. Individual tickets are only available at Wegmans video departments, and tables must be purchased by calling the Susan B. Anthony House at (585) 279-7490, ext. 14.

Collins' recent book was released in September 2003. She also is co-author, along with Dan Collins, of the 1991 book, The Millennium Book, and author of Scorpion Tongues, published in 1998.

Past speakers have included ABC News correspondents Cokie Roberts and Lynn Sherr, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas, former Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder, author Bonnie Angelo, documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and author Arianna Huffington.
