VISITOR CENTER CARRIAGE HOUSE
19 MADISON STREET

The purpose of the Campaign Academy is to prepare Latino candidates to run for elected office, as well as Latino campaign workers to manage and participate in political campaigns throughout Monroe County. Its goal is to increase both the number of Latino elected and appointed officials in municipal governments and the level of Latino involvement in local political party activities.

"Public service, whether through elected office or supporting democratic values by volunteering to work and support candidates and their campaigns, is vital to the structure of a free and open society. We hope to prepare Latinos to meet this challenge in a committed and purposeful way," asserts John Rodríguez, President of the Regional Latino Advocacy Coalition.

"We are honored to join the Regional Latino Advocacy Coalition in its announcement of creation of its Campaign Training Academy," said Lorie Lachiusa Barnum, Executive Director of the Susan B. Anthony House. "What a wonderful way to commemorate the work of Anthony, who crusaded for equal representation of all. We applaud this innovative program that will encourage governmental participation from an underrepresented sector of our community. Susan B. Anthony would be so proud of the efforts of this group and to know this innovative academy is happening right here in Rochester."

The Susan B. Anthony House will hang a wreath of violets on the front door of Anthony's home tomorrow in commemoration of the anniversary of the suffragist's death. She died at age 85 in her home March 13, 1906.

The Susan B. Anthony House was Anthony's home during the most politically active period of her life and the site of her famous arrest for voting in 1872. Anthony's story of courage and determination has been told and re-told to visitors for more than 50 years. The Susan B. Anthony House, a National Historic Landmark Museum, is supported primarily through the contributions of its members.

The Susan B. Anthony House is a non-profit, non-partisan, tax-deductible organization.
